Abstract

Healthy hair signals good health and reflects upon the condition of one’s body. Ailments related to hair plague most individuals be it common issues like hair loss or ailments like alopecia. Research and different studies have suggested that proper nutrition is a key factor in determining hair health and hair quality. This review seeks to evaluate the role that various micronutrients ingested through supplements play regarding hair health and hair loss.

Brief

Studies have determined that certain micronutrients including a few vitamins, minerals, amino acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids play a key role in hair health. They are B complex vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, iron, calcium, iodine, selenium, zinc, L-Methionine, L-Cysteine, and L-Lysine. Research has been carried out concerning the validity of these results from the studies. Additionally, research has been done to find out the role each nutrient plays in relation to hair health.

Conclusion

The micronutrients are needed for optimal hair growth & hair
health. They aid in proper hair follicle development. A deficiency of a few micronutrients is associated with issues like hair loss. Having a balanced diet or supplements to obtain all the necessary nutrients will contribute to hair health. While they do not necessarily cure ailments like hair loss, they will most certainly aid in significantly improving the conditions and make managing and preventing them easier as well.
